This Friday, our new Peruvian knitwear program makes its debut on 3sixteen.com. If you’ve already seen these sweaters through our retailer launch, you probably already know why we’re so excited. We’ve spent the better part of the year working with our new partner to develop something comfortable and easy to wear, with the durability and aging potential you’ve come to expect from us.
We couldn’t be happier with the result: a small range of crewnecks and cardigans fashioned from 100% Pima cotton yarn that was grown, spun, and knit in Peru. Pima cotton's long staple fibers are renowned for their softness and durability, which gives them a machine washable ease of care.
As great as we think our sweaters look, we feel confident in saying they’re even better in person. Experiencing them up close helps you understand how they’re hard wearing but luxuriously soft; how they have a subtle heft to them but are so comfortable that it’s easy to forget you’re wearing one.
But above all, seeing them for yourself helps give a sense for how versatile they can be. They’re as suited to summer nights in Los Angeles as they are as a layer for cold New York winter days. They can hang with a tee and jeans just as well as a button down shirt and dress pants. We shot our friend Jeff Hilliard on a brisk fall day in Brooklyn in all three styles of our knitwear, and asked him to style them alongside his own wardrobe in ways that he'd wear.
We mentioned the ease of care as a selling point for these sweaters earlier on. While we plan to venture deeper into what Peru can offer in the seasons ahead - including cotton/linen blends and alpaca - it was important to us to launch our knitwear collection with sweaters that are simple, comfortable and unfussy. Wool sweaters are unmatched in warmth but require special care and can be itchy. We particularly love cotton knits because they can be thrown into a washing machine and hang dried anytime; they don't need to be babied or given any special treatment.
In the year we’ve developed this collection, four seasons have passed. So it feels fitting that our final delivery features sweaters you can wear in every single one of them. They’re fast becoming a piece that members of our team reach for again and again; hopefully they’ll become a go-to for you, too.
