15y: Crescent Down Works for 3sixteen.

Although we met the Crescent Down Works team for the first time last January, we've been fans of their work for years now. We were able to connect with them at a trade show in Berlin we were both exhibiting at, and began brainstorming possibilities of working together. This past April, we visited their manufacturing facility in downtown Seattle, WA and got to see their workmanship and attention to detail up close, and learned more about what goes into crafting some of the best down jackets in the world. One thing we particularly love about Crescent Down Works is that it is a 100% women owned and operated business.

Crescent Down Works has specialized in one thing and one thing only since their inception in 1974: down outerwear. We took two of their most iconic silhouettes, the North by Northwest Vest and the Down Sweater, and spec'ed them out to our liking. As you can see in the photos, the fabric we sourced is special. We worked with a military surplus warehouse near our headquarters in LA to acquire vintage military sleeping bag covers which were then repurposed as the shell fabric. The covers are made of a tightly-woven olive drab cotton twill that is hard wearing and tough. We mixed and matched the covers into the jacket patterns to give them a patchwork-style look, similar to the US Army Tent Caps we've released in the past. While some of the pieces will look tamer (like the vest), others will look crazier (like the jacket). No two pieces are alike.

Both outerwear styles feature diagonal diamond quilting, black nylon lining material, storm flaps with snaps over black YKK two-way zippers, and heavy ribbed olive roll collars. The jacket features the same collar ribbing on the cuffs. As an added detail on the vest, we employed a pointed front hem for a vintage western look.

Please note that both the Down Vest and Down Jacket were produced in extremely limited quantities; the Down Vest will retail for $480 and the Down Jacket will retail for $640. Both styles will release on Saturday, December 15th at our LA Flagship store during our anniversary party from 6-10pm. Remaining stock will post to 3sixteen.com on Tuesday, December 18th at noon EST.
