Wallet Collection.
This spring season, we are excited to launch our first in-house line of leather accessories. These wallets were made in partnership with a leather goods factory in Portugal with almost 30 years of experience, and we cannot stress how impressed we have been with their attention to detail. The leather is a vegetable tanned cowhide with a beautiful, waxy finish that was tanned to our specifications. We produced natural and black colorways and the leather has a soft, supple hand that will continue to age beautifully as it’s used. The wallet pictured above is our sample that we've wear tested for the past six months to show how the leather changes over time.
We worked with our factory to source these specific leathers for their similarities in both tannage and hand to what was used on old Italian luxury handbags. Vegetable tanned leather has earned a devoted following over the past decade amongst denim enthusiasts who enjoyed watching their leather belts and wallets age alongside their jeans. With this leather, we wanted to preserve this spirit and intent while presenting a more refined option. The wax finishing on the leather can be seen from day one in the beautiful pull-up where the leather wrinkles. While the natural leather is an obvious favorite for how it will darken, we particularly love how the black leather changes too. There are grey highlights in the leather that become more prominent as the wallets are handled.
To us, the workmanship on our wallets is most easily seen on the bifold. All sides are finished with folded edges, a technique that you usually don’t see on wallets with cheaper construction methods. The edges are carefully skived down so that they can be folded over and stitched down; this kind of precise work requires skilled craftsmanship that is apparent as soon as you have the wallet in your hands. Even the corners of the bifold are carefully folded and stitched down to create a smooth, rounded edge. We also opted for a fabric lining for an extra luxe feel that allows bills to slide in and out more smoothly (as opposed to roughout leather).
The Zip Pouch and Zip Wallet are lower profile options for those who like to carry less on a day-to-day basis. Both feature shiny nickel YKK zippers with leather pulls and debossed 3sixteen logo stamps hidden inside. The Zip Pouch features a full-width opening across the top and is perfect for carrying a few cards and perhaps some change. The Zip Wallet opens across two sides for greater access and has a small leather divider to separate bills from cards.
All three wallets feature our signature pocket-overrun stitch detail on the front, the same identifier you can find on all of our jeans. It’s a subtle but impactful detail. Each wallet comes in a branded matte white cardboard gift box and a white dustbag, making them a really easy gift even though we're pretty sure most of you will be buying these for yourselves.
